Bella Italia

At the end of June, Laura and I spend a good couple of weeks in Europe, starting with a week in in Tuscany, followed by a day and a half in Innsbruck and  another week with my family in Austria. I have reserved a separate post for the Austrian part of the trip, so I will focus on Italy here. As a child I had spend almost every summer camping on Italian beaches with mum, dad, my brother and lots of cousins, and as a student in Innsbruck, I also took various trips south. So in a way, I am very attached and familiar with Italy, but at the same time I hadn't been to Tuscany in more than 20 years. It was wonderful to come back and rediscover this beautiful area again with Laura... We flew into Florence, rented a car and found our way to San Gimignano, where stayed at an agritourism place that rented aparments and produced wine and olive oil (Guardastelle, Italian for 'looking at the stars'). From there we took day trips to explore the area (Siena, Pisa, Volterra, Florence, Chianti region, etc. - map here) and simply enjoyed a wonderful time...
